Before you head out on that road trip for the holidays, make sure to schedule a pre-trip inspection with us. We would be happy to give your vehicle a thorough once-over to make sure it is ready for the road ahead. Whether you are only driving for a few hours or a few days, it’s important to ensure that you can rely on your SUV, car, or truck during the entire trip.
Battery
For example, you do not want to get stuck with a dead battery. As such, we will inspect the battery for damage and test it to see how much voltage it is carrying. If your car’s battery is older than three or four years old, it is a good idea to replace the battery before you start your trip. A car battery is considered too old and likely to die between three and four years.
Brakes
Another thing we will take the time to inspect is the brake system. We do not want you leaving for your trip without the best brakes possible. If the system is overdue for service, we will flush the brake fluid, bleed the brake lines, and replace the brake fluid. We will also replace the brake pads if they are under 1/4-of-an-inch in depth. Finally, we will make sure the rotors, calipers, and brake hoses are in good condition.
Fluids
Aside from the brakes, you also need to have the fluids checked before you leave. If your vehicle is due for an oil change, have the service done before you leave. We will also check the coolant to make sure you have plenty of clean coolant in the cooling system. Your automotive fluids, belts, and hoses should be checked before a road trip, and we will do this for you at our shop.
Tires
Finally, the tires need to be inspected to ensure you’ve got plenty of tread on them. This includes the spare tire. We will also check the sidewalls for damage and test the air pressure. If any of the tires are low, we will add air to the tire to ensure it is inflated to the recommended PSI. We will also have a look at the spare so you can count on it if you need it.
